According to MLB.com, “Ward has been one of the Angels’ hottest hitters. Losing Ward could be a major blow to the Angels, as fellow outfielder Mike Trout is expected to miss at least mid-August with surgery to remove his left shoulder blade.
The Angels recently bolstered their lineup with trades and announced their intentions to challenge for the postseason. With Shohei Ohtani continuing his “monster performance” at the top of the order, it was hard to see them giving up on fall baseball. However, Ward’s injury created an emergency for the team, and how to fill his void became a “homework” problem. Against Toronto, the team moved Luis Renfroe from shortstop to left field, with Andrew Velasquez playing shortstop.
