Day One Sports prepares for relocation, Busan city positive
On the 23rd, information titled “Opinion Notification for Attracting a Men’s Professional Basketball Team” was released on the official South Korean e-government Open Government Portal. The information was released by the Busan Metropolitan City Sports Promotion Division.
The city of Busan has been home to a men’s 토토사이트 professional basketball team for a long time. In the first years of professional basketball, Kia Enterprises (now Hyundai Mobis) was based in Busan. Since 2003, KTF (now KT) has been based in Busan, before moving to Suwon in 2021. Today, the women’s professional basketball team BNK Thumb has established itself as the representative basketball team of Busan.
The next team to consider a move is Dayone Sports. Dayone Sports acquired the Orion Basketball Team last year and entered professional basketball. The team appointed ‘basketball president’ Heo Jae as the head of the basketball team, and continued to make unconventional moves such as signing a naming sponsorship agreement with Carot Insurance for the first time in professional basketball. However, less than a year later, the team was faced with a crisis due to the financial deterioration of its parent company. The naming sponsorship was also terminated prematurely. The organization is now dealing with a host of issues, including unpaid player salaries.
A representative from DaeWon told Sports World, “We are having good discussions with the city of Busan. At this point, it is likely that we will move to a new location,” he said, adding, “We have an outline for a naming sponsor. About 80% of the process has been completed. In addition to the naming sponsor, we are in talks with about six other sponsors. We’re over 50 percent of the way there.”
“We also said that we would resolve the issue of player salaries by May 30. I think it could be fully paid within a week from then. We will make sure that the team’s salary is also resolved quickly.”
The city of Busan is positive about the move. An official from the city of Busan said, “We understand that Day One Sports needs to relocate. It seems that they have asked for opinions from local governments across the country, including Busan and Pohang.” “Busan Mayor Park Hyung-joon loves sports. Currently, there is no men’s basketball team in Busan. We are positively considering it.”
He added, “It’s not something we can do just because we want to. However, Busan is a secondary city, and I think it would be great to have a men’s professional basketball team.”
