All four games scheduled to be played in the southern region were canceled due to heavy rain. Three more Monday games have been added to the schedule, and there are fears of a no-game or rainout at Jamsil Stadium as raindrops begin to fall.

As of 3:30 p.m., the KBO officially announced the rainout of games in Gwangju, Daejeon, Sajik, and Changwon.

Gwangju Doosan-KIA, Daejeon KT-Hanwha, and Sasik Kiwoom-Lotte have been rescheduled for Monday, Sept. 18 at 6:30 p.m. The Changwon Samsung-NC game, which did not have a reserve day, will be rescheduled at a later date.

LG will have the following starting batting order: Hong Chang-ki (right fielder), Shin Min-jae (second baseman), Kim Hyun-soo (designated hitter), Austin (first baseman), Oh Ji-hwan (shortstop), Moon Bo-kyung (third baseman), Park Dong-won (catcher), Moon Sung-joo (left fielder), and Park Hae-min (center fielder).

Against LG, SSG has a starting lineup of Choo Shin-soo (designated hitter), Choi Ji-hoon (center fielder), Choi Jeong (third baseman), Eredia (left fielder), Choi Ju-hwan (first baseman), Park Sung-sung (shortstop), Han Yu-seom (right fielder), Kim Sung-hyun (second baseman), and Kim Min-sik (catcher).

The managers of both teams also hoped for a normal game on the 16th. LG manager Yeom Kyung-yup said, “Yesterday was the first time this season that we benefited from the rain (a rain-canceled win). If the rain is canceled today (the 16th), we’ll have to play a nine-game series on Monday, so it’s better to play. If you look at the forecast, it may be canceled in the middle of the game, similar to yesterday, so I think we should take that into consideration.”

SSG coach Kim Won-hyung also hoped for as normal a game as possible due to the starting rotation. He said, “We had to start either Oh Won-seok or Moon Seung-won today anyway. We were worried because Oh Won-seok is weak against LG, but we considered the LG lineup, which has many left-handed hitters. If today’s game is rained out before it starts, Oh Won-seok will start Monday’s game. However, if the game is canceled in the middle of the day, Moon Seung-won should take the mound on Monday and Park Jong-hoon on Tuesday.”

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration’s forecast, the rain is expected to increase in intensity from 6 p.m. onward. With the possibility of a mid-game rain delay, it will be interesting to see if the benches of both teams will use their early-game maneuvers to score runs.
