“It could have been a devastating defeat…” 3:0→3:4 defeat shock, overcome by Lee Jung-yong’s QS and batting concentration

“I thought it could be a continuation of a bad game.”

Lee Jung-yong (LG Twins) improved to 7-1 on the season after allowing three runs (three earned) on nine hits with two walks and three strikeouts in six innings of work against the KT Wiz of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at KT Wiz Park in Suwon, South Korea.

Lee started the game by giving up a leadoff double to Kim Min-hyuk in the first inning. However, he retired Cho Myung-ho on a fly ball to right field and then struck out Hwang Jae-gyun and Park Byung-ho.

But in the second inning, he faltered. He was hit by a double to left field. Jang Jang-woo followed with a sacrifice bunt to advance him to third. Lee Ho-yeon singled to center. Park tried to bunt. The ball sailed by Lee Jeong-yong, allowing Baek Byeong-dae to come home. Lee then got Kim Sang-soo to fly out to left field, but gave up an RBI single to Kim Min-hyuk.

In the bottom of the third inning, with the score tied at 2-2, Lee gave KT the lead again. Again, the leadoff batter walked. Hwang Jae-gyun singled. Park Byung-ho and Choi Jae-dae got out of the jam by striking out, but Jang Jang-woo gave up an RBI double. Lee Ho-yeon flied out to right field to end the threat.

The LG bats came back with two runs in the top of the fourth inning. With the lead, Lee Jung-yong regained his composure. He gave up a single to Kim Sang-soo in the top of the fourth, but struck out Kim Min-hyuk and got Choi Seok-ho to fly out to right field. In the fifth, Hwang Jae-gyun walked and Park Byung-ho singled to put runners on first and second with no outs, but a failed bunt by the batting order put runners on first and second and Jang Jang-woo into a double play. The sixth inning started with a leadoff single by Lee Ho-yeon, but he got pinch-hitter Kang Baek-ho to pop out to the catcher and then induced a double play by Kim Sang-soo.

The LG bats scored a total of 11 runs to help Lee secure the win. The previous day, the team had a 3-0 lead going into the top of the ninth inning and lost in a 3-4 tiebreaker, so the mood could have sagged. However, LG managed to turn things around with a big inning.메이저놀이터

“We had a bad game yesterday, so we thought the momentum might carry over, so we acknowledged that and tried to prepare well for the game,” said Lee Jung-yong. “We had a few close calls, but we were able to overcome them thanks to the help from our defense and batting.”

“Even though Lee Jung-yong had some difficulties with the fork, he did his part as a starter and set the stage for the victory,” said Yeom Kyung-yup. ”I think the fork was pushed a little bit, so it was difficult,” he said, “and there were a lot of right-handed batters, so I thought of the slider as a point, but there were a lot of hits, and I tried to change to a different pattern in the second half.

Lee, who made the switch to starting pitcher midway through the season, has a 7-1 record, one win, one loss, three holds and three saves in 32 games (nine starts) with a 4.06 ERA and 30 runs (28 earned) in 62 innings. He said, “I’m going to try harder as the season is coming to an end. I’m going to take care of my body and rest as much as I can,” he said. “I know the fans were very upset about yesterday’s loss, but I hope they will support the players as much as they are working hard.”
